Volunteer Income Tax Assistance ("VITA") Program, Spring 2026 Overview
The East Athens Development Corporation completed its sixth session of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) at the Mirriam Moore Community Center. The VITA Program is dedicated to serving low-income families and communities around the nation, offering free tax preparation by IRS-certified volunteers. This year, at the EADC, a total of eighty-six (86) returns were completed and accepted by the IRS, and over one hundred (100) individuals were served.
Volunteers from the UGA School of Social Work, Terry College of Business, College of Family and Consumer Sciences, and Franklin College of Arts and Sciences maintained operations from early February until the beginning of April. These volunteers completed multiple certifications through the IRS in order to prepare for their roles as tax preparers and site coordinators.
The refunds from the Federal and State Government totaled to nearly seventy-four thousand (74,000) dollars, allowing for valuable dollars to be put in the hands of East Athens residents. We appreciate everyone who put their trust in our organization and volunteers to complete your 2025 tax returns.
A special thank you to Dr. Tony Mallon, Andre Re, Ed Quigley, Trametria Scott, Kaylee Cummins, Caitlin Mills, Katy Atkins, Arjun Sharma, and Nyle Dennin for their hard work in the operation of the EADC VITA Program this year.
