Your time is one of the most valuable gifts you can give! Volunteers work together with EADC staff to support our Mission. Our program and mission would not be possible without the help of our volunteers. Volunteers must be 18 years or older, have a cleared background check, and complete our volunteer orientation course.

TUTOR INFORMATION

TUTORS

The Youth Literacy Program provides elementary grade students (K-5th) with an after-school program located in their community that is focused and dedicated to helping students engage in literary development and academic growth.

Tutor Expectations 

Program Hours: 

Monday & Wednesday : 3:30pm - 5:00pm 

*Tutors are expected to arrive 15 mins prior to the beginning of program*

Location: East Athens Development Corporation (410 McKinley Drive Athens, GA 30601)

 What you will be doing :

  • Engaging with students in One-One tutoring sessions to practice Reading and Writing skills

  • Homework Assistance

Time Commitment :

  • One Academic School Year (October 2022-May 2023).

  • 2-hour sessions with students (twice a week).

  • Bi-weekly Saturday events are optional to participate in.

Your Impact :

  • Build relationships with youth in the community

  • Help promote academic success and achievement

  • Improve reading scores and promote independent reading

  • Empower youth to feel confident in their reading

Requirements :

  • Complete a Volunteer Application

  • Schedule a Tutor Interview

  • Complete a recent Background Check

  • Attend Tutor Orientation

Skills, Experience, & Attitudes: 

  • Excellent people skills, enthusiasm for helping children, respectful attitude

  • Creative and enthusiastic when covering lesson plans and reading selected books

  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

01. COMPLETE A YLP TUTOR APPLICATION

Interested in volunteering with our students weekly complete out Tutor Application linked below! 

02. APPLICATION REVIEWAL

Once your application is submitted it will be reviewed by YLP Staff.

 

Selected applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview with YLP Program Director & EADC Staff. 

03. ONBOARDING - Training & Orientation

Tutors that are selected for the program will need to complete the following: 

  • Criminal History Consent Form 

  • YLP Training Video 

  • Training Post-Test 

  • YLP Tutor Orientation*

04. START AT YLP!!

Once you have completed the onboarding process, you are ready to start tutoring at YLP on Mondays & Wednesdays!! 

Tutors are expected to arrive at program by 3:10pm to prepare for the program day. 

    Orientation and Training: 

  • Prospective tutors must go through an Orientation before starting. 

  • Information regarding trainings will be sent by EADC staff
